Interview to Valentino Stucchi

Valentino is an employee in a insurance agency and he is a pioneer of the digital world. His blog Medal Space and his youtube channel have many followers and deals with many different topics.

Valentino tells us that “I have received many things from the Internet; the first time that I surfed it I used ItaliaOnline (NDR: the first ever Italian Internet company), with a 33k modem, we are speaking about prehistory. Attached to some magazines you could find codes which allowed you to surf the Internet for one month…” – Valentina continues – “but even “surf” was a big world for that time”. On his blog Medal Space (medalspace.blogspot.it) Valentino speaks about everything: from the dinner at the Festa dell’Unità to the receipt for the shrimp and chickpeas soup, without forgetting the great page “La stecca dei vini” and he explains us that the fact that he shares so many things depends on his desire to give back after that the Internet has given him so much during the years. At the dawn of the Internet who was discovering something useful for the others was immediately sharing it with everyone, for a sort of pioneering sharing attitude. “My blog is polyhedric, like a diary but published for everyone to see. I put there things that may be useful to other people that pass through the same “way” or other things which are mine and that only I can really understand” he discloses to us. And it is not surprising that some of his videos on his youtube channel “Valentino Stucchi” (https://www.youtube.com/user/nemerix) counts as many as 100 thousand visualizations: “I perfectly know it does not mean that everyone of them has put into practice what I describe and it does not even mean that everyone has watched the whole video to the end, I can understand it from some comments. I am pleased, more than by the number of visualizations, if what I explain in the videos is useful for someone or if someone comments saying that she solved some issues thanks to one of my videos”.

But Valentino, apart from being passionate about food, is also a bushcraft enthusiast. We can translate bushcraft with the expression “outdoor survival techniques”.

For Valentino bushcraft is related with another hobby, the do-it-yourself.

“I have always loved doing chores, fix things, understand the mechanisms” – he explains “then I started to go out and find myself outdoor, and I tried to learn at the least the basis of what it is useful outdoor. It is about taking back control of some knowledge (something that our ancestors knew well), of some techniques, of natural way of thinking. It is about adapt to nature. For me it is a great safety valve from everyday life”.

About outdoor activities we ask Valentino what is the trail that he remembers more than any other and he says: “the nocturnal ascent to Forte di Orino (near Varese). Technically it is super easy, with a mule track…extremely easy. But I needed to win my fear of doing it at night and alone. I wanted to see the sunrise.”

Finally Valentino tells us his experience with Bivo: “I suggest it, it is versatile and useful in different situations. The taste is enjoyable, Bivo Natural can be “dressed” as you prefer with dried fruit, soluble barley…so it can be customized according to everyone’s tastes. For sure you change the caloric content, but in a day you normally have three meals so you can regulate the other two meals too. If you consume Bivo during a trekking there is no problem at all because you quickly consume more calories. Moreover, the fact that it is a long term food means that you can keep it as reserve or emergency food. I suggest people to try it, so that they can understand if it fits their needs…like everyone does with a new tool, a knife, a sleeping bag, et cetera”.
